Job Summary

The Custom-Designed Major Senior Capstone Mentor provides oversight and guidance to a student as they work on their individualized capstone project. The mentor will lend their expertise in helping to develop, execute, and assess the student's capstone project.

Essential Functions

  • Providing active guidance in constructing and overseeing a course of study/research that will create a robust capstone experience as a culmination of the student’s individual CSDN curriculum. This includes helping their mentee navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise during the 3-terms.
  • Giving constructive feedback, both positive and critical, in real-time to the student.
  • Meeting (in-person, Zoom, etc.) with their mentee a minimum of three times per term to check on their progress in the capstone project. This may include sharing the responsibility of scheduling with their mentees.
  • Regularly reporting on student progress to CSDN staff at the end of each term via a short evaluation form distributed by the CSDN staff.
  • Maintaining communication and responding to email.
  • Attending their mentee’s final capstone presentation, which takes place during their final term of capstone research.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.  
  • A minimum of 1 year experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • Analytic: non-standardized and widely varied work.
  • Analytic: establish and review broad objectives relative to duties/responsibilities.
  • Problems solving involves identification and analysis of diverse problems.
  • Multiple professional skills/external expert.

Physical Requirements

  • Typically sitting at a desk table.

Additional Information
This is a part-time per diem position classified as non-exempt. The pay offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
